Description:

Older adults in skilled nursing homes and assisted living communities, are arguably the most isolated population during the COVID-19 pandemic. In many cases, social isolation practices have left them confined to their rooms and most enrichment programming has been cancelled.

This project is to bring personalized encouragement cards directly into the hands of older adults and the hardworking staff at these homes. Our goal is to generate 8,000 cards to be sent to nursing homes all across our region.

In order to send encouragement cards, please follow these steps:

Step 1:  Contact a local nursing home/assisted living center and ask them if you can drop off laminated encouragement cards for their residents.

Step 2: Either purchase a pack of cards, a coloring book, or print some 5x7 pictures of yourself (yourself with your family is fine). If you have any card stock that is cut to 8x10 inches or less, you may use it for your encouragement notes.

Step 3: Decorate/color the materials in any way you want and write a positive, inspirational note of encouragement on the card or picture (back of the card or picture is fine to write on).

Step 4: (optional): Laminate the cards/pictures. Without lamination, your work will not be allowed into the nursing home as staff can only disinfect laminated materials.

Step 5: Drop off your finished cards to a local nursing home and/or assisted living center.

Thank you for your gift of encouragement.
